We list on the big platforms. Plenty of our guests find us there, and that’s fine. But we’d always rather you booked direct, and it’s worth explaining honestly why.
1. The price is better, and the reason is simple. Booking platforms charge a service fee on top of the nightly rate, and they charge hosts a commission that has to be priced in somewhere. Book direct and both of those disappear. The saving doesn’t go to an OTA — it stays with you. That’s not a promotion; it’s just arithmetic.
2. You’re talking to the people who own the home. Not a call centre. Not a ticketing queue. The Sand or Sun Club began with our own rental and now runs two, both managed by us. When you ask whether the third bedroom’s bunk will work for a seven-year-old, or whether the hot tub is on in February, you get an answer from someone who has been in that room this month.
3. Requests are actually possible. Late arrival, an early check-in, a grocery list, a cot, a mid-stay refresh clean, a chef for one night, a tee time for four at 7am. On a platform, most of that gets lost in a messaging thread. Direct, it’s a conversation, and usually a yes.
4. Concierge comes as standard. Tee-time booking, restaurant reservations, activity and tour booking, transfers, and our genuinely-used shortlist of local recommendations. It’s included, not an upsell.
5. If something goes wrong, we fix it. There’s a 24/7 guest line with a real person on the end. No arbitration process, no third party deciding what happens to your holiday. We fix it, because it’s our name on it.
6. It’s better for the homes, too. Direct bookings mean we can invest in the properties rather than in commission — new mattresses, a renovated kitchen, better toiletries, the arcade in the loft. Guests feel that even if they never think about where it came from.
